phone hacking hearing. british lawmakers take aim at rupert murdoch and his son. >> a scandal that as shaken an entire nation. >> i'm jessica kartalija. >> don scott. >> british politicians grilled rupert murdoch and his son james in london. they want answers about that phone hacking accusation but has the media im empire reeling. as charlie d'agata reports, a scuffle broke out in the hearing room just moments ago. >> reporter: media giant ruche -- rupert murdoch faced lawmakers. murdoch's son james apologized for phone hacking at the "news of the world" newspaper.

had testing materials in advance of their exam. when lives are on the line, knowledge matters. that's why fire paramedics must past state certcation testing but a state agency found cheating. they said a recent class of about 20 baltimore cadets had a copy in advance,up setting the chief james clack. >> one of the state examiners found a test out in the open and from there they launched an investigation. >> reporter: the testing took place at public safety training facility on swriewn 14. the chief said he does not know whether instructors or cadets are to blai. the they are conducting an investigation during which all ems training has been suspend.

conditions. baltimore city police have identified the man when a stolen car crashed into his van. he's a long time school teacher and musician. mary bubala has more. >> good afternoon. the accident happened saturday afternoon at bell and ferndale avenues. police say a shooting suspect had stole man car near mon domen shopping center. the suspect crashed into the van of 60-year-old wendall hairyston who died. harrisston taught public schools for nearly four decades and at one point led a jazz group made up of students at winston middle school. >> police have one person in custody in connection with the crash but are looking for another. the trial begins today for a teenage girl charged with

fatally shooting a man during a robbery attempt. arteesha holt held up two men near patterson park. polt became enraged and opened fire when the two men started laughing at her. holt's brother is charged with helping her get away. a suspected drug dealer is facing a number of charges after leading police on a high speed chase. 22-year-old dare ron simpson took off when he was spotted dealing drugs. police say he forced an officer's cruiser off the park way and drove to arun dill mills mall. the tea party will have it safe today as the house of representatives votes on a debt package. with the deadline now exactly two weeks away, here's danielle nottingham with the latest for wjz. >> reporter: house lawmakers

vote today on a tea party plan to raise the debt limit. it's called cut, cap and balance. the proposal cuts federal spending back to 2004 levels, caps it there and adds an constitutional amendment requiring the government balance its budget every year. >> what we get are real cuts in spending and real reforms in place that will make sure this problem never, ever happens again. >> reporter: the plan is expected to pass in the house but fail in the senate. >> this really isn't about balancing the budget but scoring political points. >> reporter: white house officials president obama will veto the bill if it ever reaches his desk. the next step may be a bipartisan plan that gives the power to raise the debt ceiling on his own. senate majority leader harry reid and minority leader mitch mcconnell are working on that. it calls on the president to lay

out spending cuts and gives lawmakers the power to block it. >> the president's goal was to raise the debt limit without spending cuts or long term fiscal reforms. not even the president can claim to sport status quo anymore. >> reporter: senators will be working every day, including weekends. if they don't pass a plan by august 2nd, the government could find itself unable to pay its bills. in washington, danielle nottingham. >> a senate version would also establish a commission charged with proposing more spending cuts and reforms for congress. a baltimore-based hospital is once again named the nation's best. for the 22nd year in a projohns hopkins is ranked one by u.s. news world and report and the university of maryland medical center was ranked second.

welcome back. here are those numbers, warming up. 92 degrees already in baltimore. 90 in d.c. when you factor in the dew points, it's incredibly high. 100 in baltimore. 100 in elkton. it is definitely stifling outside. take a look at these winds. they turn around to the north. there's not a whole lot of relief behind this cold front. as we head over the next few hours we could see a few more pop up with the front passing by behind this temperatures are still pretty high. it's still very warm. so we may cool down a little bit tonight compared to the 77 of last night maybe getting down to 70. tomorrow we go right back up. all of this heat that we've been tracking will continue to move in our direction. so we've got the one front

passing by today. tomorrow still the slight chance for a late day shower or thunderstorm from it. then it gets out of here. once that leaves us, all of that heat will flood into the region. although it is hot now temperatures are only going up for the second half of the week and we're talking about close to triple digits by friday afternoon. another thing going on, this is tropical storm bret. winds 50 miles an hour. it's moving off to the north, northeast, starting to pick up speed. that front is moving through our hour. it's protecting the east coast of the united states and kicking bret out to sea. there may be rip tides along some of the beaches but the storm will stay out to sea. our forecaster, it's going to be a muggy one. temperatures going up a couple degrees. so tonight we go down to 71. tomorrow go right back up. 94 for our high, the slight chance for a late day thunderstorm tomorrow. after that the numbers keep
